GREELEY COUNTY–Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. announced today that its Sharing Success Fund, managed by the Scott Community Foundation, has awarded a $1,000 grant to DJ’s Toy Fund managed by the Greeley-Wallace County Healthcare Foundation.
DJ’s Toy Fund provides packaged toys to seven local county hospitals: Scott, Wichita, Greeley, Wallace, Sherman, Thomas, and Logan counties. Mark and Jill Hanson of Wallace, lost their son, DJ, four years ago at the age of 29. As a child, DJ, was often hospitalized and given a toy for comfort. Mark and Jill decided it was fitting to donate the memorial money for a local medical toy fund.
The fund donates toys for ER visits, hospital stays, surgeries, blood work, physical therapy as a reward, specialty clinics, as well as family health visits for sickness. The fund also provides toy bags for children receiving ongoing treatment.
The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund from non-profit organizations on December 1, 2012. Wheatland Electric and CoBank have each contributed $10,000 this year to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted.
Since 2012, the Sharing Success Fund has made $125,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across Wheatland’s service territory.
Non-profit groups interested in receiving funding from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund can apply online. Questions should be referred to Alli Conine, Director of Member Services & Corporate Communications, at 620-874-4563 or aconine@weci.net.
