FINNEY COUNTY, KS–Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) announced today that its Sharing Success Fund, managed by the Scott Community Foundation, awarded a $1,000 grant to Finney County Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

The grant will help with the purchase of items for Santas for Seniors. Through this program, seniors receive gift bags during the Christmas season. Many of the elderly living in the community are isolated over the holidays and live on a limited income. Santas for Seniors makes the holidays brighter for recipients by providing a bag of needed items for Christmas including non-perishable foods, personal hygiene items, puzzle books, new socks, and blankets.

Finney County RSVP will begin taking donations for Santas for Seniors starting Oct.1, 2023. If you would like to be a part of this program or learn more contact Director Marty Dinkel at 620-275-5566.

The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on December 1, 2012. WEC and CoBank have each contributed $10,000 this again year to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, the Sharing Success Fund has made $145,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across WEC’s service territory.

Community based organizations interested in receiving funding from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund can apply online. Questions should be referred to Alli Conine, Director of Member Services & Corporate Communications, at 620-874-4563 or aconine@weci.net.
