Argonia, Kan.–Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) announced today that the Argonia Swim Team has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the WEC Sharing Success Fund.
This grant will be used to support the purchase of essential equipment and supplies needed to host their annual swim meet. The funding will allow the team to invest in a new public address (PA) system, benches, and canopies—key items that will enhance the experience for athletes, spectators, and volunteers.
Having the right equipment—especially a PA system for announcements and canopies for shade—means the team can host a safe, organized, and enjoyable event for everyone involved. It’s an opportunity to bring people together and showcase Argonia’s hospitality.
The team is excited to host their second home swim meet this summer and will welcome five visiting teams, drawing swimmers, families, and supporters to the area. The grant will not only benefit the team but also positively impact the local economy, as families visiting for the swim meet frequent local restaurants, shops, and other businesses.
The Argonia Swim Team is a summer swim program for youth ages 7–18, helping to foster a love for swimming, teamwork, and community involvement. The team competes in weekend meets throughout the summer season. For more information on the team or how you can help, contact head coach Kristina Greenwood at 620-845-4488.
The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the WEC Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on December 1, 2012. Since then, the application process has been moved internally and is currently handled directly by WEC. This year, WEC and CoBank have once again each contributed $10,000 to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, WEC’s Sharing Success Fund has made $165,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across their service territory.
Community based organizations interested in receiving funding from the WEC Sharing Success Fund can apply online.
