Zenda, Kan.–Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) announced today that the City of Zenda has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the WEC Sharing Success Fund to help update the city’s aging Christmas decorations.
The City of Zenda is working to replace its aging lighted pole decorations along Main Street in time for this year’s Christmas season. The current decorations, which have served the community for years, are showing signs of wear, with burned-out lights and fraying materials. The new decorations will bring a fresh, festive look to Main Street, reflecting Zenda’s pride and holiday spirit.
More than just décor, these updates will enhance the town’s welcoming atmosphere, creating moments of joy for residents and visitors alike. Last year’s successful pole decorating contest fostered community involvement and began Zenda’s fundraising efforts for this project. The new decorations will add to the festive charm of Zenda’s annual Santa Parade and holiday celebrations as well as help Zenda's Main Street shine bright this holiday season!
The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the WEC Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on December 1, 2012. Since then, the application process has been moved internally and is currently handled directly by WEC. This year, WEC and CoBank have once again each contributed $10,000 to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, WEC’s Sharing Success Fund has made $165,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across their service territory.
Community based organizations interested in receiving funding from the WEC Sharing Success Fund can apply online. Questions should be referred to Alli Conine, Director of Member Services & Corporate Communications, at 620-874-4563 or aconine@weci.net.
