SCOTT CITY–Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) congratulates Haylee Osner and Mya Devine Scott, both juniors at Conway Springs High School.
These two outstanding students were selected to represent WEC at Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp this summer and were recognized at WEC’s annual meeting and 75th anniversary celebration in Scott City, Kan. on April 26, 2023.
Eligible students completed an online application, including a written essay about a family, social, or school situation in which their leadership made the difference. Based on their applications, Osner and Scott were selected as finalists. After an extensive interview, they were selected as the two winners by the WEC Board of Trustees.
Osner and Scott will join 100 other high school youth representing cooperatives from Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Wyoming in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
While in Colorado, students will learn about the cooperative business model, develop leadership skills, and listen to nationally recognized speakers. Students learn new skills, build meaningful connections, and come back energized to lead their communities!
While in Colorado, students also have the opportunity to raft the Colorado River, tour Craig Generation Plant, attend a high-voltage safety demonstration, and participate in other activities, building memories that will last a lifetime.
High school juniors who reside in WEC’s service territory that are a legal dependent of an active member receiving service from WEC are eligible to apply. See our website for more information.
