Caldwell, KS–Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) has announced that its Sharing Success Fund, managed by the Scott Community Foundation, has awarded a $1,000 grant to Vision Caldwell, a grass roots effort to create a healthy community.
The Wheatland Sharing Success grant will be used to purchase handheld tools such as weed eaters, leaf blowers and trimmers. Citizens and business owners can utilize the tools to improve and upkeep their yards or storefronts.
“This will provide our lower income residents access to tools they may not own but need for proper yard care,” said City Administrator Leah Sommerhoff. “This will also allow business owners the opportunity to blow off their sidewalk easily.”
These tools will help improve and revitalize the community’s appearance, instill pride, and make Caldwell a more desirable location to visit or raise a family.
The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on December 1, 2012.
WEC and CoBank have each contributed $10,000 this again year to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, the Sharing Success Fund has made $145,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across WEC’s service territory.
Community-based organizations interested in receiving funding from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund can apply online.
