Harper, KS – Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. announced today that its Sharing Success Fund, managed by the Scott Community Foundation, has awarded a $1,000 grant to Pleasant Valley Preschool.

The funds will be used toward educational enhancements including updating the Children’s Library and incorporating hands-on manipulatives to their math curriculum. “Our goal for each child is to have knowledge of letters, sounds and numbers to make kindergarten an enjoyable year without struggling,” said Sue Williams, director and lead teacher at Pleasant Valley Preschool. But they go beyond just academics, according to Ms. Williams. “We try to teach students to make good choices, be helpful, and to take responsibility for their own actions. We strive to teach children academics and the social skills necessary to help them deal with social and emotional situations.”

The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on December 1, 2012.  Wheatland Electric and CoBank have each contributed $10,000 this year to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, the Sharing Success Fund has made $125,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across Wheatland’s service territory.
