Spirit of the Plains, CASA Receives $1,000 Sharing Success Grant

All News

SCOTT CITY – Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. announced today that its Sharing Success Fund, managed by the Scott Community Foundation, has awarded a $1,000 grant to Spirit of the Plains, CASA, Inc., based in Garden City. These funds will be used to recruit, train, and certify at least five to seven volunteers in Scott County, where a growing need for CASAs (court-appointed special advocates) exists.

CASA volunteers work with abused and neglected children in the court system across the 25th Judicial District. According to agency representatives, they get to know a child and offer a consistent and stable presence in their life during a difficult time. They speak to everyone involved (e.g., family members, teachers, attorneys, social workers, therapists, and more), research the case, create a plan for advocacy, and make recommendations to the court. All this information helps the court make informed decisions in the best interest of the child.
