Sumner County Fair Association Receives $1,000 Sharing Success

All News

Caldwell, Kan.–Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) announced today that the Sumner County Fair Association has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the WEC Sharing Success Fund. This grant will help support much-needed updates to the facilities used for livestock shows at the annual county fair.

The planned $60,000 project aims to improve the livestock barns and show areas and enhance the experience for all youth exhibitors and fairgoers. Planned upgrades include electrical systems, bathroom facilities, adding insulation to combat the August heat, and improving the overall layout and comfort of the show ring and barns.

These improvements will make a meaningful difference not only for the youth who work hard to show their animals each year, but also for the families, volunteers, and community members who gather to support them.

With these facility improvements, the association also hopes to expand the use of the barns and show ring for events beyond the fair, allowing for additional community gatherings and agricultural showcases throughout the year.

The Sumner County Fair Association, made up entirely of dedicated volunteers from across the county, works year-round to provide a fun-filled, family-friendly fair. This annual event highlights talent from all age groups throughout the region. The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the WEC Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on December 1, 2012. Since then, the application process has been moved internally and is currently handled directly by WEC. This year, WEC and CoBank have once again each contributed $10,000 to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, WEC’s Sharing Success Fund has made $165,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across their service territory.

Community based organizations interested in receiving funding from the WEC Sharing Success Fund can apply online. Questions should be referred to Alli Conine, Director of Member Services & Corporate Communications, at 620-874-4563 or aconine@weci.net.
