USD 356 Conway Springs School District Receives $1,000 Sharing Success Grant from Wheatland Electric

Conway Springs, KS – Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. announced today that its Sharing Success Fund, managed by the Scott Community Foundation, has awarded a $1,000 grant to USD 356 Conway Springs Schools for the Support OWLS project.

The Support OWLS project, spearheaded by Chris Bellar, is an initiative by the school district to build a wildlife area with native plants, learning center and gardening area which will promote hands-on learning for students at every grade level, explained Superintendent Clay Murphy. Community members are also invited to visit the wildlife area to walk, sit and take in the beauty of the pollinator garden, or watch the progress of student projects as they grow, plant and harvest native plants and produce. This is the first year of a multi-year project.

The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on December 1, 2012.  Wheatland Electric and CoBank have each contributed $10,000 this again year to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, the Sharing Success Fund has made $125,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across Wheatland’s service territory.
