FINNEY COUNTY–Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. announced today that its Sharing Success Fund, managed by the Scott Community Foundation, has awarded a $1,000 grant to the Vets for Veterans Club, Inc.

Vets for Veterans is a group comprised of people who share the common goal of helping veterans, active-duty military members, and their families, according to Club Treasurer, Anna Van Wy.

Originally conceived by former members of a local veteran’s organization, club members actively participate in community and individual needs such as donating time, labor, and financial support to other veteran organizations like JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps), Wreaths Across America, Memorial Day services and Fort Dodge Soldiers Home.

Van Wy said grant funds from Wheatland will be used to continue their efforts which include purchasing wheelchairs, supporting enlisted members preparing to ship out on duty, and individual veterans in need of medical bills, housing, food, and family members of veterans who have passed.

They also enjoy riding motorcycles together, which allow them to play an active role in community events, like parades, and provide a military presence at every local military and veteran memorial service.

The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund from non-profit organizations on December 1, 2012. Wheatland Electric and CoBank have each contributed $10,000 this year to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted.

Non-profit groups interested in receiving funding from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund can apply online. Questions should be referred to Alli Conine, Director of Member Services & Corporate Communications, at 620-874-4563 or aconine@weci.net.
