Great Bend–Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. invites the community to an open house celebrating one year at their new location, 200 10th Street, Great Bend on Thursday, August 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The open house is a come and go event with refreshments and door prizes. Facility and green space tours will be available, and Wheatland’s Hyundai Kona will be on hand for members wanting to experience driving a 100% electric vehicle.
Wheatland Electric broke ground on the new 30,000 square-foot building in September 2020 to centralize operations in the central district and better serve the Great Bend community. The facility officially opened August 18, 2021.
The brick building features both a walk-in customer-service lobby and drive-up window, boasts an outdoor green space with working fossil-free energy sources — a wind-generator, a solar generator, and battery storage — and is irrigated with a water recovery system. A publicly accessible electric vehicle level 2 charging station was added in December.
